AutoBacklinks vs Pitchbox (2026): Agent or Platform?
by Rachid Idali
Last Updated: August 24, 2026
AutoBacklinks and Pitchbox sell the same outcome: backlinks earned through email outreach. They are opposite answers to one question: who does the work?
Pitchbox is an outreach operations platform, built for the way link building worked before AI agents: trained people driving campaign workflows, sequences, pipelines, and reports by hand. AutoBacklinks is an AI agent, built for the way it works now. You tell it the goal, it finds the prospects, qualifies them, gets the contacts, writes the emails, and stops where you want to approve.
That one difference decides almost everything else in this comparison. One tool requires training: reviewers put operator comfort at two to three weeks, and Pitchbox sells a $2,000 implementation program to shorten it. The other is straightforward: you configure a campaign in about two minutes and run it the day you sign up. Pitchbox Pro is $210/mo on a one-year commitment and assumes you bring your own SEO data and AI key. AutoBacklinks Starter is $79/mo, monthly, with all of that included.
Here is the full breakdown, priced from both live pricing pages and Pitchbox's own help docs.

The whole comparison in one picture: the same six stages, operated by your team on one side and by the agent on the other.
AutoBacklinks is an AI agent, Pitchbox is a platform you staff
Pitchbox describes its own operating model precisely. The platform is built around a six-stage, skill-based workflow (inspect, personalize, compose, send, negotiate, win), each stage with its own workstation, with permissions that keep juniors inside guardrails. There is a Pitchbox Certified Professional program with tracks for Prospector, Outreach Manager, and Outreach Team Lead.
Read that list again. A certification program with job titles is an honest signal: this is software you staff and train for. It organizes manual work; it does not remove it. That was the right shape when every stage needed human hands. In 2026, the grunt work those workstations organize is exactly what an AI agent automates.

Pitchbox positions as the AI outreach platform for link building and AEO (pitchbox.com, August 2026).
AutoBacklinks removes the department. One quick note before I compare them: AutoBacklinks is our product, so weigh my conclusions accordingly. Every Pitchbox claim in this piece comes from its own pricing page, help docs, or public reviews, and I will be specific about the two features Pitchbox has that we do not.
The AutoBacklinks agent works like a colleague you brief in chat. It proposes keywords, runs discovery, applies your SEO filters, looks up contacts, and drafts the outreach, reporting each step and what it cost in credits:

One real campaign inside AutoBacklinks: 359 prospects found, 302 past the SEO filter, 143 with contacts, 115 in the outreach sequence, with the agent's log on the left.
If you would rather watch the difference than read about it:
The AutoBacklinks demo: the agent taking a campaign from prospecting to sent outreach.
Campaign setup: AutoBacklinks takes minutes, Pitchbox takes weeks
Pitchbox setup is a project. You choose among its campaign types (blogger outreach, advanced operator search, competitor backlinks, CSV imports, and more), connect your SEO tools, build sequences, and learn the workflow. Reviewers consistently describe a real learning curve; the convergent estimate across 2025–2026 reviews is two to three weeks before an operator feels comfortable. Pitchbox itself sells an Expert-Led Implementation program (training, setup, and certification) priced at $2,000 on Pro, included when you prepay the year. When implementation is a product, setup is not trivial.
An AutoBacklinks campaign is a six-step wizard: goal, sources, SEO filters, approach, mailbox, review. It takes about two minutes to configure, and the campaign that comes out of it is automated end to end.
Step two is where you pick prospect sources. You can combine them in one campaign: web search, competitor backlinks, an existing list, or a CSV of up to 1,000 domains:

One campaign can pull prospects from several sources at once, including a plain CSV of domains.
Step four sets the pitch and the control level. You describe your outreach approach in plain words, or start from a proven one: paid placement, backlink exchange, free access, or an affiliate offer. Then you decide what happens when drafts are ready: hold them for your review, or send automatically, paced to your mailbox's daily limit:

The approach step: describe the pitch in your own words, then decide whether drafts wait for you or send unattended.
Campaigns can also recur. Set weekly, biweekly, or monthly, and every run repeats the whole pipeline: find, filter, get contacts, draft. That is the part Pitchbox reserves for higher tiers; recurring campaigns are not available on Pitchbox Pro at all, and automations are capped at four even there.
Edge: AutoBacklinks. One tool sells an implementation program; the other is a wizard you finish before a Pitchbox demo would even be scheduled.
Link prospecting: AutoBacklinks scans vs Pitchbox search operators
Prospecting is Pitchbox's historical strength. It scrapes Google directly with advanced operators (intitle, inurl, and the rest), offers more than twenty prospecting options across guest posts, niche edits, resource pages, reviews, and broken links, imports CSVs from Ahrefs, Semrush, or Moz, and deduplicates new prospects against every campaign you have ever run. An AI Keyword Assistant expands seed terms. For an operator who knows search operators, it is a serious toolkit.
Two honest caveats from its own buyers. Prospecting searches are metered (1,000 per month on Pro), and what counts as one search is not defined anywhere public. And discovery quality is a recurring complaint: Capterra reviewers note that keyword prospecting sometimes "fetches irrelevant websites" that a person then has to weed out.
AutoBacklinks runs six scan types, and the agent runs them rather than handing you a query builder:
- Competitor backlink scans that classify each link (listicle mention, source citation, paid placement, brand mention) and turn matches into an outreach list.
- ChatGPT source scans that find the pages ChatGPT actually cites for questions in your niche, so you can pitch your way into the sources AI answers pull from.
- Guest post scans, with AI-suggested keywords for your niche.
- Link insertion scans over live listicles, guides, and resource pages.
- Product review scans that find blogs already reviewing your competitors.
- Directory scans, each listing marked free or paid.
That second one deserves a sentence. Pitchbox repositioned this year around link building and AEO, and its data study on AI search is genuinely useful. But I could not find an AI-citation prospecting feature anywhere in its product docs. AutoBacklinks ships one today.
Edge: split. Operators who live in search operators get more raw controls from Pitchbox. Everyone else gets more sources, already run, from AutoBacklinks.
SEO data: AutoBacklinks includes it, Pitchbox needs your Ahrefs
This is the comparison's least-known fact, and it is straight from Pitchbox's help center.
Pitchbox does not bundle SEO data. Its Ahrefs integration connects through your own Ahrefs account. Its Semrush integration requires your own Semrush account with an API key. Majestic requires your own access token. The only metrics on by default are Moz DA and PA, and their docs note the Moz fallback switches off once you connect anything else. There is no Pitchbox authority metric.
So the DR and traffic filters in a Pitchbox campaign are real, but they run on a subscription you pay separately. For context, Ahrefs' cheapest full plan costs more per month than the entire AutoBacklinks Starter plan.
AutoBacklinks includes the data. Pulling Domain Rating and current monthly organic traffic for a prospect costs 0.5 credits per site, and the filters run inside the same workflow: set a DR floor and a traffic floor, and unqualified sites drop out before you spend anything on contacts. On top of the numeric filters, an AI relevance score reads each site and drops generic publishers with no topical fit, with the reasoning shown per site. High DR does not rescue an irrelevant site, which is the property that actually moves reply rates.
Edge: AutoBacklinks, unless you already pay for Ahrefs or Semrush anyway, in which case Pitchbox's four-tool integration depth is genuinely good.
Contact finding and verification: AutoBacklinks vs Pitchbox
Both products find and verify contact emails natively, and both meter it with credits. Pitchbox charges 2 data credits per verified email, ranks contacts by an engagement-probability score built on 100+ data points, and floats editors and authors to the top. Its credit pool is enormous: 600,000 data credits a year on Pro. Credits are not what limits a Pitchbox account.
AutoBacklinks charges 3 credits per verified email, returns name, role, and verification status, and does one thing differently: contact lookup runs after qualification, not before. You spend on emails only for sites that passed your DR, traffic, and relevance gates. On a metered budget, order of operations is money.
Edge: even. Pitchbox has the deeper contact scoring; AutoBacklinks has the safer spend order and, at Starter prices, the stakes are smaller.
AI outreach emails: AutoBacklinks drafts vs Pitchbox templates
The Pitchbox writing model is templates plus assistance. You build sequence templates with merge fields, and its AI layer personalizes at scale: define personalization fields once, run bulk AI personalization across thousands of sites, and let its Template Assistant (trained on outreach outcomes) draft variants.
One structural detail matters: Pitchbox's AI personalization runs on your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. Their guide says it directly: "The costs associated with AI Personalization are borne by the user." Pitchbox adds no fee, but the AI bill is yours, it scales with your volume, and their docs note that better models cost more.
AutoBacklinks does not start from a template. You give the campaign a goal and an approach, and the agent writes each first-touch email and its follow-ups from that prospect's own page: what the site covers, which article the pitch references, why the ask fits. Every generated email costs 1 credit, from the same plan credits everything else uses. There is no separate AI bill and nothing to key in.
In our published campaign, that page-level angle put 187 emails out and brought 32 replies back, a 17.1% reply rate. The lever was not clever copy. It was that every email was about the prospect's actual page.
Edge: AutoBacklinks. Templates with merge fields were the manual era's answer to scale. Drafting from the prospect's own page is what replaced them.
Email sending: AutoBacklinks includes warmup, Pitchbox includes monitoring
Both tools send from your own mailboxes, not a shared pool. Pitchbox connects Gmail, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Outlook, and IMAP/SMTP, though Pro excludes the fancier options (MS Exchange, SendGrid, Mailgun, email rotation). Sending is paced with natural sending patterns, and every subscription includes MXRight deliverability monitoring: 80+ blacklists tracked, SPF/DKIM/DMARC checks, daily mailbox reputation scores. That monitoring layer is a real inclusion, and reviewers rarely mention anything comparable elsewhere.
Two gaps sit next to it. Pitchbox has no automated warmup; its help center's recommended method is a hand-run "organic" warmup campaign where you ramp daily limits yourself. And bounce handling is manual: there is a per-mailbox bounce log to review and download, and G2 reviewers confirm you check bounces by hand.
AutoBacklinks connects Gmail, Google Workspace, or any SMTP provider, paces sends to your mailbox's daily limit, and includes warmup free on every mailbox: it holds real conversations so your domain builds reputation, and you can switch it off per mailbox. Starter includes roughly 1,500 outreach emails a month across 2 mailboxes; Pitchbox Pro allows 2,000 across 2 accounts, at 2.7 times the committed price.
Edge: split. Pitchbox monitors deliverability better. AutoBacklinks builds it for you and handles the bounces.
Reply handling and price negotiation: Pitchbox vs AutoBacklinks
Follow-up automation is Pitchbox's most-praised feature. Chasebox keeps sequences alive through negotiations, every reply lands in a unified inbox, and relationships stay owned by the company when staff turn over. In March 2025 Pitchbox added an AI Reply Agent that reads inbound email, drafts or sends responses, makes counteroffers under price ceilings you set, and flags uncertain cases to a human. It is included on every plan. I could not find independent user reviews of it yet, so treat its claims as vendor claims for now.
AutoBacklinks approaches replies as decisions to prepare, not conversations to automate. The AI Reply Analyzer reads each publisher reply and extracts the entire offer: every price, placement type, content requirement, and payment term, then scores the deal. Positive replies land on a kanban opportunities board with those terms already structured, and each deal moves from Needs Review through Negotiating, Awaiting Content, Awaiting Payment, and Submitted to Published, so you drag cards forward instead of re-reading threads.

The opportunities board: every card is a positive reply with its Domain Rating and quoted price already extracted, dragged from review to published.
And before you pay anyone, the backlink valuation tool scores the offer against the site's authority, traffic, and placement terms, and gives you a fair-value range and a recommended maximum offer (10 credits per evaluation). A $80 link insertion quote on a DR 74 site with 136K monthly traffic is a very different decision from the same quote on a site living off one country's traffic, and the valuation shows you which one you are holding.
Edge: split, by intent. Pitchbox automates the conversation. AutoBacklinks structures the deal and tells you what it is worth.
Pitchbox vs AutoBacklinks for agency teams and reporting
Pitchbox has more machinery here, and it is worth being precise about what the machinery is for: managing people who do manual outreach. Client workspaces (25 on Advanced, unlimited on Scale), granular roles, a skill-based workflow that keeps junior operators inside guardrails, white-label client reports, team-performance analytics, link monitoring that rechecks won placements monthly, a REST API with webhooks, Zapier, and Slack. Mind the tier gating: API access, white-label reports, role-based workflow, and recurring campaigns all sit above Pro, and Looker Studio dashboards are Scale-only.
Notice what most of those features supervise: operators. Roles, guardrails, workstations, and team analytics exist because the platform assumes people are doing every stage by hand. Hand the stages to an agent and most of that layer has nothing left to manage.
Agencies run AutoBacklinks too; they just run it lean. Growth covers 5 websites and Scale covers 25, so client campaigns live under one roof, each site with its own campaigns and funnel: Found, Reachable, Contacted, Replied, Opportunities, charted day by day per campaign and across all campaigns.

The AutoBacklinks dashboard: the funnel across every campaign, drafts waiting for review, and the next scheduled runs.
What AutoBacklinks does not have today: white-label client reports and a public API. If either is a hard requirement this quarter, that is the one honest reason left to evaluate Pitchbox, and it arrives bundled with the year commitment and the training weeks.
Edge: Pitchbox on white label and API. AutoBacklinks on everything those features exist to manage.
AutoBacklinks vs Pitchbox pricing: what a month costs
Now put the pieces together, because the sticker prices are not comparing the same thing.
The subscription is not the stack: what each setup actually requires per working month.
Pitchbox Pro is $210/mo on annual prepay, and its billing FAQ is unambiguous: "all plans require a commitment of one year, regardless of billing frequency." The realistic year-one decision is $2,520 to $3,600, plus your SEO tool subscription, plus your AI API bill, plus the weeks of operator time. The trial sits behind a sales demo. I broke the full pricing structure down in the Pitchbox alternatives guide, so I will not repeat it here.

Pitchbox's live pricing: the annual toggle is the default, and every plan carries a one-year term (pitchbox.com, August 2026).
AutoBacklinks Starter is $79/mo, cancelled from billing whenever you want, with a self-serve 7-day trial (120 credits, card required). Annual billing makes it $869 for the year; monthly, $948. Everything runs on one credit pool: 1 credit per prospect found, 0.5 per site for SEO metrics, 3 per verified email, 1 per AI email, 10 per backlink valuation.
A typical Starter month looks like this: the agent finds 500 prospects (500 credits), pulls DR and traffic on all of them (250), finds verified emails for the 150 sites that survive your filters (450), and drafts a first touch plus two follow-ups for 120 reachable contacts (360). That is roughly 1,560 of your 2,500 credits, with the rest left for another scan or a stack of valuations.
To be fair in the other direction: Pitchbox's credit pool is around twenty times larger, its email cap is higher, and heavy teams will not feel either limit on AutoBacklinks pricing without moving up a tier. You are paying Pitchbox for headroom you may genuinely need at agency volume. You are just also paying for it during every month you do not.
AutoBacklinks or Pitchbox: which should you pick?
Choose AutoBacklinks if:
- You run link building yourself: founder, in-house SEO, small team, or an agency that would rather not staff and train a platform.
- You want the work done rather than organized: campaigns configured in minutes, run on a schedule, drafts waiting for a yes.
- You want SEO data, AI writing, contacts, and warmup in one $79 price instead of a stack of subscriptions.
- You want to test on a Tuesday without booking a call, and leave any month it stops earning its keep.
When does Pitchbox still make sense?
- You are mid-contract with trained operators already on it; riding out the year beats paying twice.
- You need white-label client reports or a public API today, the two things AutoBacklinks does not have yet.
- You already pay for Ahrefs or Semrush and want its four-tool integration depth.
Even then, be clear about what you are buying: a well-built platform for the manual model, with the year commitment, the training weeks, and the bring-your-own subscriptions priced in. Starting fresh in 2026, I would not sign a year of software that organizes grunt work an agent now does.
The wider field, nine tools tested against live sites, is in my AI link building tools roundup. If you want to see the agent run a campaign on your own site, start the free trial and give it a goal.
FAQ
Is Pitchbox worth it in 2026?
Pitchbox is a well-built platform for the manual model of outreach: it holds a 4.7 on G2 and 4.6 on Capterra, and teams already staffed and trained on it get real value from its depth. The model is the problem in 2026. It asks for a one-year commitment, two to three weeks of training, and your own SEO data and AI subscriptions to organize work an AI agent now automates. Starting fresh, solo or agency, a lean agent tool like AutoBacklinks covers the same workflow at $79/mo with no training and no contract.
Does Pitchbox include SEO data like Domain Rating?
Only Moz DA and PA by default. Deeper metrics require your own subscriptions: the Ahrefs integration connects through your Ahrefs account, Semrush needs your own API key, and Majestic needs your own access token. AutoBacklinks includes Domain Rating and organic traffic data at 0.5 credits per site with no external subscription.
Does Pitchbox write outreach emails with AI?
Yes, through AI personalization, bulk personalization fields, and a template assistant. The catch is billing: AI personalization runs on your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, and Pitchbox's docs state the costs are borne by the user. AutoBacklinks generates first-touch emails and follow-ups from each prospect's page for 1 credit each, with no separate AI bill.
Can I cancel Pitchbox monthly?
No. Every Pitchbox plan requires a one-year commitment regardless of billing frequency; monthly billing spreads the year across twelve payments of $300 on Pro, and cancelling mid-year keeps access (and obligation) to the end of the term. AutoBacklinks is billed monthly and cancels from the billing page at any time.
How long does each tool take to set up?
An AutoBacklinks campaign takes about two minutes: goal, sources, SEO filters, approach, mailbox, review, and the campaign runs itself from there. Pitchbox is a genuine implementation: reviews put operator comfort at two to three weeks, and Pitchbox sells an Expert-Led Implementation program at $2,000 on Pro, included with annual prepay.
How much does AutoBacklinks cost compared to Pitchbox Pro?
AutoBacklinks Starter is $79/mo with 2,500 credits, roughly 1,500 outreach emails, and every feature included; a year costs $869 to $948 with no commitment. Pitchbox Pro is $210/mo on annual prepay or $300/mo billed monthly, both on a one-year term, so year one is $2,520 to $3,600 before your SEO data subscription and AI API costs.
